Windows XP/2000 Issues

Sensible Cinema Box Office Pro
& Box Office Lite

VERSION COMPATIBILITY:

Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP are supported in Box Office Pro version 1.06 and later only. Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP are supported in Box Office Lite version 1.02 and later only.

KNOWN ISSUES AND BUGS IN WINDOWS XP AND WINDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL:

As of the first release of Windows XP Professional, there is a bug which may cause a corrupted screen display on some systems with high resolution graphic modes and high color when running Box Office Pro and other DOS applications in Full Screen mode. This is not true in XP Home or subsequent releases of XP Professional. To avoid this bug, lower screen resolution and color depth or run Box Office Pro in a DOS window rather than full screen or run Windows Update for the latest fixes. For Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP, a default 50 lines setting rather than 25 lines per screen may be set when creating a new shortcut. This can be changed by clicking the taskbar's top left icon in the Box Office Pro window and changing the setting from 50 to 25 lines. Save the property for use with all sessions with the same window title and apply. Using the shortcut provided with the software will automatically set the lines per page to 25 lines.

NETWORKING PROTOCOL:

Windows XP removes support for the NetBeui networking protocol. If mixing XP and Windows 9x, ME machines on your network, the IPX/SPX/NetBios protocol must be the default NetBios protocol used when connecting Windows XP computers to computers running previous Windows 9x and ME versions.

PERMISSIONS AND SHARED RESOURCES:

As with Windows NT and Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP requires permissions to be set for shared use across a network. Be sure that your workstations have Full Access permissions to files in the server's shared folder so that they may read and write files.

HARDWARE:

Microsoft has phased out support for devices that require direct access to serial and parallel ports.

PRINTING ISSUES: This has meant that we have had to develop work arounds for printing issues and if you are using the 1.06 version of Box Office Pro or 1.02 or later of the Box Office Lite these changes are invisible and require no further action.

POLE DISPLAY: We are unable to directly access serial ports from DOS windows through Windows 2000 or XP and have created a work around solution in the form of a Windows based application that runs in the background capturing sales totals and placing them on the customer display. This program must be running (minimized to the desktop is okay) in the background while you are selling tickets from the terminal program. Note: You must tell the Box Office Pro or Lite software that NO POLE DISPLAY is connected or being used. The Windows WINPOLE.EXE program will poll the BoxPro or BoxLite transaction file and update the display as necessary using Windows. To download the free winpole utility, click here.
